At Alumwell Junior School, we believe DT should be an opportunity for children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.

Throughout each term, children will have the opportunity to create one product for a purpose. This will often be in a blocked unit of work, following a planning, designing, making and evaluating process.

We feel that it is important for children to have these memorable experiences but also to recognise the importance of planning and evaluation in the process. We recognise that this enables children to work in a variety of ways, and will provide opportunities for work as individuals, partnerships and teams to solve problems related to practical experiences, often in a  cross curricular way. 

As they progress through the school, children will gain experience of working with structures, textiles, electrical and mechanical systems. There will be a food focus for every year group. Children will be working on skills appropriate to their ability.
