Meet Our Family Support Worker

Hello, my name is Carol Holmes and I am the Family Support Worker at Alumwell Junior School.

I have been part of the Alumwell Junior School community for over 11 years and am passionate about supporting children and their families. Before joining the school, I worked as a Family Support Worker within Walsall Children’s Centres, giving me many years of experience working alongside families and helping them access the support they need.

My role is to provide a friendly, approachable and confidential service for parents and carers. Whether you are concerned about your child’s wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, emotional health, family circumstances or challenges at home, I am here to listen and help. I aim to build positive relationships with families, offer practical support and, where needed, act as an advocate on your behalf.

How I Can Help

I can support families by:

• Providing a listening ear and offering advice and guidance.
• Supporting with concerns relating to home or school.
• Helping to complete forms and applications.
• Signposting families to specialist services and support agencies.
• Supporting parents during meetings.
• Acting as a link between home and school.
• Working with the South and Central Family Hub to access additional advice and services.
• Helping families access emergency support, including food bank vouchers during times of hardship.

Parent Workshops and Support Sessions

Throughout the year, we offer a range of workshops and information sessions for parents and carers. Previous sessions have included:

• Understanding Your Child’s Emotions
• Understanding Your Child’s Behaviour
• Fussy Eating
• Sleep
• Minor Illnesses

This year, I hope to offer even more opportunities for parents to come together and access support. In September, I will be seeking suggestions from parents about topics they would like covered, allowing us to tailor sessions to meet the needs of our families.
