Art & Design
At Alumwell Junior school we recognise that Art and Design stimulates creativity and imagination. It enables children of all abilities to express and communicate what they think, see and hear through the use of colour, texture, form and pattern - using a range of media.
Children at Alumwell will study the work of three well-known artists or designers every academic year. In addition to this, children will also develop their sketching and drawing skills in portraits, landscapes and the work of illustrators studied within their year groups. Children will be encouraged to use a range of skills appropriate to their level of development using drawing, painting and sculpture.
All children have their personal watercolour tins and brushes which they are encouraged to look after and have sole responsibility for. These are used throughout lessons where appropriate, not only during discrete Art and Design lessons.
Learning through milestones
At Alumwell Junior School we use milestones in Art & Design to measure progression. The skills within each milestone are transferable, so as the subjects or artists that are studied change, the skills can still be practised, repeated and revisited in any situation.
