Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Last year was a strange year but we are really looking forward to working with your children this year and getting things as back to normal as we can.

We have had a really positive start to the new term in Year 4 and would like to take this opportunity to introduce our Year 4 team and our curriculum aims for the Autumn term. It is so good to see all of your children back in the classroom, and we have really enjoyed our first few weeks!

The Year 4 Team:

Class 4 – Mrs Backrath, Mrs Weaver, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Greene

Class 5 – Mrs Harrison and Mrs Khalsoom

Class 6 – Miss Jackson, Miss Collins, Mrs Sutton, Mrs Harper and Mrs Bryant

Our Year 4 Curriculum:

Year 4 study The Rainforests this term and learning across most subjects will be linked and/or related to the rainforests. Within Geography, History, Art and Design & Technology we will focus on the following areas:

  • What a rainforest is and where they are found.
  • Explore the layers of vegetation in a rainforest and identify some of the animals that live there.
  • Investigate the climate of the rainforest and be able to describe and compare the rainforest climate with climates in other parts of the world.
  • Learn about the people and settlements of the rainforest and be able to describe the way of life of traditional tribespeople.
  • Explore why the rainforest is under threat and the measures taken to protect it.
  •  Name reasons why rainforests are destroyed and ways in which rainforests can be protected.

More details of our learning across the curriculum will soon be published on our website, but we felt that the above key areas would be useful for parents and carers who wish for their children to research and read at home around the topic.

We are really looking forward to the rest of this term and we are sure that your children will enjoy everything that we have planned.

Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions or concerns. We are always more than happy to help.
