Curriculum

Our vision at Alumwell Junior School is to create a happy, exciting, inspiring and safe community for every child. A community where our children can not only thrive academically but also develop their full potential on a personal level.

'Excellence and Enjoyment for Everyone'

is always at the heart of what we do at Alumwell.

Our curriculum aims are for all pupils to:

  • Become fluent and confident readers and to develop an appreciation and love of reading whilst gaining knowledge across the curriculum.

  • Use excellent basic skills across the curriculum including reading, writing and mathematics.

  • Develop a sense of morality, respect and community.

  • Be excited by the curriculum and want to learn.

  • Retain key knowledge in all curriculum areas.

  • Become independent and resilient learners so they are ready for secondary school (and beyond).

  • Be challenged and make progress across all areas of the curriculum (including disadvantaged pupils and those with a special need and/or disability).

  • Have a broad and lasting knowledge of subject specific vocabulary.

  • Have a wide range of life experiences that enhance their learning (including trips and extra-curricular activities).

At Alumwell Junior School all class teachers are responsible for providing a curriculum that is suitable for all pupils in the class, including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with support from the SEND Coordinator.  We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014.  Our inclusion statement emphasises the importance of providing an inclusive learning environment for all pupils including those with SEND.  Additional information on this can be found in our Special Educational Needs Report and Equalities Policy.
