Spring Curriculum:
Our key theme for the Spring Term is the Ancient Civilisation of the Mayans. We will be investigating questions such as:
Who were the Mayans and where did they live?
When was the Maya civilisation at its peak and where does this fit into our current understanding of other world history?
What was life like for the Mayan people? What culture can we see in the historical record?
How did the Mayan people communicate using art and numbers?
Alongside the Mayans, our other Spring topics include 'The Countries of Europe', Claude Monet (an artist study), the religion of Christianity and shading techniques for the sketching of natural landscapes.
Reading, online research or written work around any of these topics at home would be excellent in supporting your child's learning at school. Please let us know if you would like any support with this as we would be happy to provide suggestions for places to start.
Supporting your child at home:
Below, we have provided some materials to help support your child's learning at home. There are documents that can help with reading, writing, maths and topic work and each file has links to useful websites and resources.
If your child is in a phonics group, 'Green Words' are the focus for reading in school. The colours of each sheet match up to the group that the children join for reading each morning so practising these would be perfect in complimenting work from school.
We will also be providing updates on our class pages. Here, you will find spellings for the week, questions that we will ask children after their learning and examples of the classes' brilliant work.
