Geography

'You can travel the seas, poles and deserts and see nothing.  To really understand the world, you need to get under the skin of the people and places.'

Michael Palin

Geography at Alumwell Junior aims to equip our pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

Our  approach is to

  • inspire pupils to develop a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.
  • develop pupils’ geographical skills and communicate geographical information in a variety of ways.
  • understand,  compare and contrast different places, people and localities throughout the world.
  • apply Geographical skills in  everyday  life.

Our aim at Alumwell is to encourage pupils to develop an appreciation and understanding of the world, initially building a secure physical and social knowledge of the local community and subsequently developing and applying this to a wider range of regions, countries and continents of the world.

Pupils will be taught to make links between these areas of learning, with the aim of developing engaged, motivated and curious learners that take an interest in the world around them.
